Hanoi:The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has announced the end of the kingfish fishing ban in Bahrain's territorial waters. The ban, which also restricted the display and sale of kingfish for marketing or commercial purposes, will be lifted on October 16.
According to Bahrain News Agency, The seasonal ban was implemented under Legislative Decree (20) of 2002 concerning the Regulation of Fishing, Exploitation, and Protection of Marine Resources. It followed decisions from the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee's 23rd meeting, which outlined measures to protect kingfish stocks.
The ban was in effect from August 15 to October 15, coinciding with the kingfish breeding season. Its purpose was to increase fish stocks by regulating fishing activities, preventing the depletion of fishing grounds, and maintaining ecological balance in marine life.
The SCE praised fishermen for their cooperation and sense of national responsibility during the ban. The council urged continued compliance with regulations to ensure the sustainability of Bahrain's national fish stocks.
