President of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, commended the royal support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the health sector.
He also praised the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to further optimize health services to achieve the goals of Bahrain Vision 2030.
He pointed out the health insurance project and the radical change it requires in the funding, management and governance of the health sector.
In his inaugural speech today of the first conference on pharmacovigilance and drug safety, the SCH President said the two-day event is being held at a crucial time when the kingdom is witnessing steady development in promoting health services.
He underlined the importance of such conferences in backing the ongoing efforts to upgrade the health sector and boost cooperation between the GCC member states.
He lauded, in this context, success of the 7th meeting of the GCC Health Ministers Committee and the 84th meeting of the GCC Health Ministers Council, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The SCH President affirmed that the conference on pharmacovigilance and drug safety is an opportunity to highlight the efforts of SCH and the National Committee for the Unified Procurement of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies in supervising the strategic national stockpile of medicines and ensure its proper management.
He also pointed out that the challenges posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic at the national and international level assert the dire need to further develop the health system and enhance its effectiveness.
He noted that this will be a top priority for governments and international organisations as investment in health remains the best option.
The SCH President wished the conference every success, expressing hope it will come up with recommendations that enrich the national health plans in the kingdom and the GCC countries and achieve sustainable cooperation and integration in various health and medical fields.
