Manama: Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division participated in a virtual seminar hosted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in collaboration with The World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS). The seminar was held under the theme “How can parliaments secure a peace dividend? – Allocating for peace”. It discussed innovative approaches to fostering peace by prioritising human security, collaborative decision-making, and creating inclusive and proactive policies that advance peace, stability, and sustainable development for nations and their citizens.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Hassan Eid Bukhamas, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee at the Council of Representatives, and Ali Abdullah Al Aradi, a member of the Shura Council, participated in the seminar. The seminar highlighted key insights from the IPU’s latest toolkit on integrating human and collective security strategies into parliamentary efforts. Participants emphasised the importance of addressing the root causes of
insecurity while promoting cooperation and dialogue to achieve shared security, noting that no country can secure peace in isolation.
The seminar also examined the concept of the “peace dividend,” which underscores the long-term social and economic gains of peace. These benefits include redirecting national resources towards critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and environmental protection, paving the way for sustained development and prosperity.
