Bahrain’s Parliamentary Delegation Highlights Progress in Empowering Women Through Laws and Policies

Manama: Leena Habib Kassim, Deputy Head of the Woman and Child Affairs Committee and Head of the Parliamentary Delegation, has translated the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on women's empowerment into legislation and policies that ensure equal opportunities and enable women's political participation and leadership. This effort aims to make women key partners in national development, with continued support led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Kassim emphasized that the Supreme Council for Women, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of HM the King, ensures the sustainability of women's empowerment. Bahraini women play active leadership roles in legislation, policymaking, oversight, and societal development.

This announcement was made during the first session of the second edition of the Women Parliamentarians Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM). The session, held under the theme "Enhancing Women's Empowerment in the Economic and Political Spheres," included discussions on ways to support and strengthen the role of women in economic and political life and enable their effective participation in decision-making positions.

Leena Kassim stated that amid regional and global challenges, women's empowerment is a key driver of development, stability, and innovation. She highlighted the need for stronger legislative coordination between GCC and Mediterranean countries, the exchange of best practices, and enhanced regional parliamentary cooperation to expand women's role in decision-making and link empowerment policies to sustainable development and social stability.
