New York:Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), emphasized Bahrain's increasing role in the global space sector during a high-level dialogue at the Science Summit, which took place alongside the 2026 United Nations General Assembly meetings.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Aseeri addressed a session titled "The Space Mindset: Navigating Space Policy, Diplomacy and Global Leadership," where he underscored the significance of international cooperation, sustainable space governance, and investment in national capabilities for broader participation in future space exploration.
He pointed out Bahrain's strategic alliances with over 85 international entities and the country's investment in national talent, noting that Bahrainis make up 70% of the agency's engineers, with women constituting 71% of this group. This reflects the Kingdom's ambitions and aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to bolster Bahrain's international standing in space science.
Dr. Al Aseeri detailed the Bahrain Space Agency's Third Strategic Plan for 2024-2028, which aims to enhance space infrastructure, encourage entrepreneurship, and build national capabilities to cultivate a thriving space economy. A key milestone in these efforts is the launch of the Al Munther satellite in March 2025, showcasing Bahrain's advanced space capabilities through its design and build entirely within the country, integrating artificial intelligence and advanced cybersecurity technologies.
He also highlighted the broader role countries play in the evolving space sector, which includes contributing to the development of international rules and frameworks. Dr. Al Aseeri concluded by reaffirming Bahrain's commitment to shaping the future of space, emphasizing that small, ambitious nations can have a significant impact on the sector.
