Bahrain UN Mission Refutes Iranian Allegations, Cites Unjustified Attacks

New york: The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York has issued a statement refuting claims made by Iran in communications from the Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Kingdom's Mission sent a ninth letter to both the United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on March 30, strongly rejecting the allegations.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the statement from Bahrain's UN Mission categorically rejected the claims made in a letter dated March 18 from Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Bahrain emphasized that these allegations were false and lacked any basis. The statement reiterated that Iran's attacks against Bahrain were unjustified and underscored Bahrain's adherence to the principles of sovereignty and non-interference as outlined in the United Nations Charter.

The statement further highlighted Iran's ongoing military operations against Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, including Bahrain, targeting civilian sites and infrastructure. It called attention to the positions expressed by international bodies such as the GCC, the Arab League, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, all of which condemned Iran's actions. The United Nations Security Council's Resolution 2817, adopted on March 11, also condemned the attacks, calling for their immediate cessation.

Additionally, the statement rejected Iran's attempts to shift blame and distort facts, asserting Bahrain's innocence and victimhood in these attacks. It noted that Iran threatened the use of force on February 19, a threat rejected by the GCC states, which called for a de-escalation of tensions. Bahrain's statement confirmed the unlawful nature of Iranian attacks that resulted in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage, violating international humanitarian law.

In response to the ongoing aggression, Bahrain reiterated its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and urged the Security Council to take decisive action against Iran's violations. The Kingdom of Bahrain committed to keeping the United Nations informed of developments and assessing the damage caused by Iran's actions.
