Manama:Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted that Bahrain is actively pursuing a diplomatic strategy guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This strategy focuses on clarity of position and safeguarding national interests while strengthening partnerships through bilateral and multilateral engagement to support security, stability, and peace, ensuring Bahrain's sovereignty and achievements.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's diplomatic efforts in response to Iranian attacks have involved coordination across political, legal, and technical tracks, engaging with more than ten international and regional organizations and forums. The efforts saw support from 136 countries for UN Security Council Resolution 2817, adopted on March 11, 2026, along with 100 countries joining the international statement on maritime security and 95 supporting the inclusion of a relevant agenda at the 79th World Health Assembly, which led to the adoption of the Gulf-Jordanian resolution with the backing of 91 countries. Bahrain also submitted 33 official communications to the United Nations, comprising 23 national and 10 joint GCC letters.
Dr. Al Zayani explained that Bahrain's political track included its presidency of the UN Security Council in April 2026, chairing the current GCC session and the 165th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, as well as participating in joint Gulf coordination at international organizations and forums such as the GCC-EU High-Level Forum and the Ministerial Contact Group on Iran. Initiatives included those focused on maritime security and the Strait of Hormuz.
The Minister emphasized Bahrain's involvement with international organizations like the World Health Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization, International Maritime Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Food Programme, and International Telecommunication Union. These engagements aimed at documenting the impact of the attacks, addressing implications for aviation and maritime security, safeguarding technical mandates of international organizations, and mobilizing support for Resolution 2817.
He noted that these diplomatic efforts have expanded international backing for Bahrain's position and fortified its legal stance under UN Security Council Resolution 2817, the UN Charter, and international law. They have brought attention to the impact of the Iranian attacks within international and regional organizations and allowed Bahrain to counter Iranian claims through legal and technical channels, exercising its right of reply.
Dr. Al Zayani affirmed that Bahrain will continue to build on these diplomatic outcomes, enhance international partnerships, and protect its interests and national achievements while promoting security, stability, and peace both regionally and globally.
