Bahrain proud to host landmark CPUNGA meeting: Shaikha Haya

Manama, Mar. 6 (BNA): Bahrain has emerged as a laudable nation to host the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (CPUNGA), which bolsters the Kingdom’s status as a leading member of the United Nations.

Shaikha Haya bint Rashid Al Khalifa, the 64th President of the United Nations General Assembly, on the sidelines of the opening of the two-day CPUNGA meeting told Bahrain News Agency that the council consists of all the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

“I am proud that we are hosting this meeting for the first time, outside New York, in the Middle East region in Bahrain,” she said.

“The agenda focuses on key issues including politics, conflict and cybersecurity and reflects the agenda of the UNGA of this year. Some of the issues which we deal with at this time are technical crimes, human rights, cyber security and many others with discussions followed by recommendations on each area of agenda.”

It is important that this kind of meeting of the United Nations being held here will offer a window of opportunity for the delegates to witness themselves the democratic strides Bahrain has witnessed over the decades as well as the development of womenfolk, social development, and the situation of children, she said.

“We will show them everything about Bahrain, and we will share with them the development and success story of Bahrain, the Kingdom thrives on high values of the United Nations,” Shaikha Haya said.
