Bahrain Plans Expansion of Postal Services with 50 New Service Points and Parcel Lockers

Manama:The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, has unveiled a new initiative to enhance Bahrain Post operations by establishing 50 authorized postal service points and 50 electronic parcel lockers across various governorates in Bahrain.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the initiative was announced during a press conference at the Manama Post Office, aiming to improve postal services and embrace digital transformation. The initiative seeks to integrate modern technologies and digital solutions, thus improving service efficiency and fostering partnerships with the private sector to meet the evolving needs of individuals and businesses in logistics and e-commerce.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of enhancing postal services as a priority for improving service quality and operational efficiency. The initiative aligns with the ministry's commitment to further development projects that support digital transformation, boost Bahrain's competitiveness, and contribute to economic growth.

Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transportation and Post Affairs, elaborated on the plan to increase access to postal services by collaborating with the private sector to establish postal service points in public-friendly locations, such as supermarkets and retail outlets. The introduction of electronic parcel lockers aims to provide customers with secure and smart solutions for parcel deposit and collection without direct interaction with postal employees.

Al Dhaen highlighted that the electronic locker service, following a successful pilot phase involving 14 lockers, received positive feedback, with 71% of customers opting for the lockers. This success has paved the way for expanding the service into a comprehensive network. The initiative will be rolled out over six months, with an initial launch of 25 postal service points and parcel lockers, followed by a gradual increase to the full target.

Bahrain Post will oversee the service network, while RedBox will manage operations, including the establishment and maintenance of service points and lockers, and provide necessary technological solutions for parcel management. The services will be made available to all citizens, residents, companies, and institutions as per Bahrain Post's procedures, with ongoing updates on new operational sites and available services.
