Manama: In collaboration with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), Assouline Publishing has released "Bahrain Pearls: Treasures from the Land of the Two Seas." The book is a detailed exploration of Bahrain's historical connection to pearling, tracing its significance from ancient times to its contemporary cultural impact.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the publication is available in English through Assouline's official website and boutiques worldwide, as well as at the Bahrain National Museum's gift shop. It delves into the Kingdom's history of pearling, dating back to the Dilmun and Tylos periods (2200 BCE - 300 CE), and underscores Bahrain's historical role as a center for natural pearl production.
The book also highlights the significance of the Pearling Path on the island of Muharraq, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2012. This site includes various natural and cultural landmarks that encapsulate the cultural importance of the pearling economy in Bahrain.
In addition to its historical narrative, the publication documents the exquisite craftsmanship involved in fine jewellery-making in Bahrain, which is deeply rooted in the harvesting of natural pearls. Through evocative narratives and high-quality photography, the book celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the pearl trade and its integral role in shaping the identity of Bahrain.
