Brussels: Dr. Mohammed Ali Bahzad, Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led Bahrain's delegation at the 9th Brussels Conference on "Standing with Syria: Meeting the Needs for a Successful Transition", hosted by the European Union at the European Council in Brussels.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the conference was attended by Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, along with foreign ministers from several Arab, European, and donor countries, as well as representatives from United Nations agencies and international organisations.
The European Commission President underscored the importance of achieving a just and inclusive political transition in Syria and ensuring that aid to Syrians is effective and sustainable. She also emphasised the EU's readiness to reconsider the gradual lifting of sanctions on Syria and expressed gratitude to countries that continue to host Syrian refugees.
The total pledges from participating countries and international organisations to support Syrian refugees both inside Syria and in neighbouring countries amounted to £5.8 billion. The conference aimed to mobilise critical financial support to address the most urgent needs of Syrians and host communities while reaffirming the international community's commitment to the political transition process in Syria.
