Bahrain Parliamentary Delegation Concludes Participation in Key AIPU Executive Committee Meeting in Egypt

Cairo: A parliamentary delegation, led by MP Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and representative of the Executive Committee at the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), concluded its participation in the 37th meeting of the Executive Committee of the AIPU, held in Egypt. The session was chaired by Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the National People's Assembly of Algeria and president of the AIPU.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the AIPU Executive Committee recommended assigning the Financial Committee, coordinated by MP Qarata, to amend the financial regulations of the union. This involves introducing a provision that establishes a clear legal mechanism for handling future outstanding debts, ensuring financial balance and sustainability. The committee also recommended that member states requesting debt exemptions must fulfill their financial contributions for 2025 and commit to paying future dues to maintain the financial stability of the AIPU.

Additionally, the committee proposed assigning a task force comprising representatives from Palestine, Jordan, Algeria, and Oman to draft a request for the inclusion of an emergency item at the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled to take place in Tashkent in April 2025. Letters will be sent to parliaments and regional and international organisations worldwide to seek support for the emergency item.

The committee's recommendations also included scheduling the 38th session of the Executive Committee for May 2, while the 38th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference will be held on May 3-4. The matter will be referred to the AIPU presidency for a final decision regarding the agenda items for the 38th conference, which will be hosted by Algeria.

The committee also approved the report of the special committee assigned to review the AIPU charter and determine the permanent headquarters. The report will be submitted to the upcoming AIPU conference for a decision. It was emphasised that any amendments must comply with the internal regulations and procedural requirements, following the agreed modifications during the session.
