Bahrain-Morocco Joint High Committee Advances Bilateral Relations in Laayoune

Laayoune: The Bahrain-Morocco Joint High Committee convened its sixth session in Laayoune, chaired by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, and Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Bourita emphasized the significance of the committee’s meeting in Laayoune, highlighting the commitment of both nations to strengthening their longstanding relations under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain and His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco. The Moroccan Foreign Minister expressed pride in hosting the committee in Laayoune, referencing the inauguration of a Bahraini consulate general there in December 2020 as a testament to the robust ties between the two countries. He reiterated Morocco’s unwavering support for Bahrain’s security, stability, and sovereignty, and commended Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 for its strategic approach to diversify the economy.

Dr. Al Zayani remarked on the political and strategic significance of holding the meeting in Laayoune, reaffirming Bahrain’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. He congratulated Morocco on the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 and its election for a third term to the African Union Peace and Security Council, acknowledging King Mohammed VI’s role in fostering peace and stability in Africa.

Addressing regional challenges, the Bahraini Foreign Minister underscored the necessity of finding a just solution to the Palestinian issue and welcomed the launch of the second phase of the United States President’s plan to end the conflict in Gaza. He highlighted the role of Bahrain and Morocco as founding members in establishing a Board of Peace to consolidate ceasefire, protect civilians, and facilitate humanitarian aid.

The session marked a significant step in enhancing bilateral cooperation, economic partnership, trade, and political coordination. Both sides reviewed achievements and discussed ways to boost collaboration in various domains to achieve regional security, stability, and prosperity.

The meeting concluded with the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding, and it was agreed that the seventh session of the committee will take place in Bahrain, with the date to be determined through diplomatic channels. Key attendees included Bahrain’s Ambassador to Morocco, Khalid bin Salman Al Musallam, and other distinguished diplomats and officials.
