Manama: Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Drugs, affirmed the Kingdom's strong commitment to global anti-narcotics efforts.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister highlighted Bahrain's active role in international cooperation to build a drug-free society, under the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah stressed that tackling the drug threat requires a collective effort that extends beyond law enforcement, calling on all sectors of society to take responsibility. The minister warned of the profound social, economic, and health consequences of drug abuse and underlined the need for a unified national response.
The minister noted that Bahrain continues to enhance its capabilities to combat drug trafficking and related crimes, supported by improved coordination across security, judicial, and community sectors. Gen. Shaikh Rashid also emphasised the importance of public awareness and education in addressing the root causes of drug abuse.
As part of its national strategy, Bahrain has launched the second phase of its drug control plan, building on the 97% success rate of the first phase. Between January and April 2025, authorities recorded over 700 drug-related cases and seized more than 182 kilograms of illegal substances.
The minister thanked the Anti-Narcotics Directorate and all partner agencies for their ongoing dedication and collaboration. Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah also thanked all ministries, institutions, and individuals contributing to the fight against drugs.
