Bahrain, Libyan foreign ministers discuss ties, cooperation

Manama: Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani held today official discussions with the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Najla El Mangoush on a visit to Bahrain.

Al Zayani hailed the fraternal relations between the two countries that are constantly developing under mutual keenness to enhance cooperation in several fields.

He stressed that Bahrain supports Libya in its efforts to establish stability and security, reach a political resolution that preserves its sovereignty and independence and stops any interference in its internal affairs and hold the scheduled parliamentary elections to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people.

El Mangoush noted Bahrain’s stances in support of the Libyan Government of National Unity to restore peace, security, and stability.

She affirmed Libya’s keenness to strengthen relations with Bahrain and to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination in various fields of common interest, wishing the Kingdom further prosperity.

The ministers discussed strong fraternal relations and ways of enhancing cooperation in various fields, and continuing coordination in international forums.

They also discussed political and security developments in Libya and the efforts made by the Libyan Government of National Unity, with the support of the United Nations, to reach a political settlement that restores security, peace, and stability in Libya.

They also reviewed regional and international issues of common interest.

Following the official talks, Al Zayani delivered a media statement in which he welcomed his Libyan counterpart on her first visit to Bahrain.

He added that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received the Libyan Foreign Minister and affirming the Kingdom’s support for the unremitting efforts exerted by Libya to lay the foundations of security, stability, and peace in all parts of the country.

He added that HM the King stressed the importance of taking steps to support stability in Libya and the exit of foreign forces, in order to preserve Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as hold the scheduled presidential and parliamentary elections to achieve the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people for development and prosperity.

Al Zayani also affirmed that His Majesty has expressed his confidence in the ability of the Libyan people to overcome all current challenges.

He added that he held lengthy talks with his Libyan counterpart and discussed strong bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them.

The talks stressed the need to continue the exchange of visits between senior officials and official delegations between the two countries and the importance of coordination in international and regional forums on issues of common interest.

Al Zayani pointed out the need to adopt effective mechanisms to follow up on areas of cooperation to achieve constructive results.

The meeting also shed light on political and security developments in Libya, and the efforts made by the Libyan Government of National Unity, the United Nations, and the supporting countries to reach a political solution to the situation that preserves the sovereignty, independence, and stability of the country, stops interference in its internal affairs and leads to holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on their scheduled date. Al Zayani said.

The minister added that he expressed to his Libyan counterpart the Kingdom’s keenness on security, stability and prosperity in the Middle East and the whole region.

El Mangoush underlined her pleasure to have met His Majesty King Hamad and thanked him for his hospitality. She also noted during her meeting with His Majesty the strong belief that Libya’s stability depends on dialogue, patience, and wisdom.

She added that the support of His Majesty and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the efforts of the Libyan Government of National Unity will enhance stability in Libya and support Libyan diplomacy during this time.

El Mangoush thanked Bahrain for its support to Libya, expressing keenness on bolstering cooperation between the two countries.
