Bahrain Leads Virtual GCC Meeting on Transport Amid Regional Tensions

Manama: As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Bader Hood Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, chaired the 29th extraordinary meeting of the Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Transport and Communications of the GCC states, held via videoconference. Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post, was present.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Mahmood affirmed the GCC countries' commitment to maintaining coordination and monitoring developments in the transport and communications sector amid the repercussions of Iranian attacks on GCC states and Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among member states to ensure business continuity and the smooth flow of goods, which supports sector stability and serves common interests.

The meeting addressed several strategic topics, focusing on enhancing the efficiency of the transport sector and ensuring the continuity of supply chains among member states. This contributes to the smooth movement of goods and aligns with regional and international developments. Initiatives and studies aimed at strengthening preparedness and addressing various scenarios were reviewed, along with discussions on developing coordinated and integrated procedures to support sector stability and mitigate the impact of changes on transport and trade.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the undersecretaries expressed appreciation for the cooperation among member states and the efforts of the GCC General Secretariat in coordination and follow-up. They affirmed the commitment of GCC countries to continue working to enhance the resilience of the Gulf transport sector and its ability to adapt to various developments.
