Rome: Bahrain's delegation, led by Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, has commenced a three-day strategic visit to Italy. Featuring a series of curated business events, as well as official and private sector meetings, the visit aims to strengthen economic and trade ties between Bahrain and Italy.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the multi-city visit, which includes Rome, Parma, and Milan, is set to highlight Bahrain's diverse investment offerings across priority sectors such as financial services, ICT manufacturing, logistics, and tourism. The delegation aims to attract investment, promote economic growth, and create employment opportunities in Bahrain.
Bahrain's delegation includes several key figures such as Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development; Khalid Humaidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain; and Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Mumtalakat. Accompanying them are Hamad Al Mahmeed, Director General of the Prime Minister's Office; Ali AlMudaifa, Chief of Business Development at Bahrain EDB; Mohammed AlAlawi, Chief of Marketing and Communications at Bahrain EDB; Ugo Vincenzini, Advisor to the Chief Executive of Bahrain EDB; and Mohamed AlMadani, Head of Manufacturing, Logistics, and Transport at Bahrain EDB.
The visit underscores Bahrain's efforts to position itself as a competitive regional hub for international business while enhancing its partnership with Italy and fostering mutually beneficial economic collaborations. The economic relationship between Bahrain and Italy dates back to 1973, with recent agreements including Italy's partnership status for sea-to-air freight services.
Trade between the two nations has grown steadily, with non-oil trade reaching USD 775 million in 2024. Additionally, economic agreements on investment protection and equal treatment of anchorage and port taxes have been signed. Italian companies have established a presence in Bahrain, benefiting from its strategic location and business-friendly environment. Notably, Italian pasta producer Barilla and racing components manufacturer Racing Force have expanded their operations in Bahrain.
Bahrain offers Italian businesses unique opportunities with its regional and global market access, advanced digital infrastructure, and competitive operational costs, making it an attractive destination for investment in the Middle East.
