Bahrain Condemns Iranian Attack on Saudi and Qatari Oil Tankers

Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has issued a strong condemnation of the Iranian attack on the Saudi oil tanker Wadyan and the Qatari tanker Al Rukayyat while they were navigating through the Strait of Hormuz, putting the lives of their crews at risk.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain stated that the incident is an unacceptable assault on international maritime navigation and global energy supplies. The ministry highlighted that the attack violates international law, United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, and the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. It also undermines ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and bolster regional security and stability.

The ministry reiterated Bahrain's complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, supporting all measures undertaken by these nations to protect their security and interests. The Kingdom of Bahrain has called on the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to take responsibility and adopt firm measures to prevent such Iranian attacks from recurring. The statement emphasized the need to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions or unlawful fees, and to reject any attempts to use the Strait as a tool for pressure or economic coercion.

The ministry underscored that these principles are crucial to global energy security and the uninterrupted supply of food and medicine, ensuring the smooth flow of international trade. This contributes to enhanced security, stability, and prosperity both regionally and globally.
