Riyadh:Bahrain has extended heartfelt condolences to Saudi Arabia and other countries whose citizens were killed in a recent Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain expressed its deepest sympathies to the families of victims from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Sudan, the United States, and Bangladesh. The attack resulted in 12 fatalities and injured over 300 civilians, some critically.
The Ministry emphasized Bahrain's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its commitment to supporting measures to protect the Kingdom's sovereignty and stability. It stressed the interconnected security of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, as well as the broader security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
The attack was condemned by the Ministry as a dangerous escalation by the Iran-backed Houthi militia, violating Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and international laws, including humanitarian laws. It warned that such acts threaten regional security, international civil aviation safety, and the lives of passengers and aviation personnel.
Bahrain called upon the United Nations Security Council to take decisive action to stop Houthi attacks on civilians and infrastructure and to hold those responsible accountable. The Ministry urged the implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, specifically Resolutions 2216, 2722, and 2817.
Furthermore, the Ministry appealed to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other international bodies to uphold their responsibilities in protecting international civil aviation and maintaining regional and global peace and security.
