Manama: Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, Chief of Public Security and Chairman of the National Committee for Civil Emergency Management, confirmed that Bahrain's National Civil Protection Platform has been recognised by the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction under the League of Arab States and listed by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on its PreventionWeb portal.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Lieutenant General Al Hassan commended the support of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Civil Defence Council. He noted the minister's directives to maintain the platform, launched on November 3, 2023, as a national initiative providing safety information to the public through modern technology and a community-focused approach.
The Chief of Public Security viewed the platform as one of the best practices in awareness and community education on disaster risk reduction. It aligns with the strategy of the National Civil Emergency Committee and the Civil Defence Council's goals, utilizing advanced technology to raise awareness, enhance preparedness, and promote public safety in line with global trends. The platform's recognition is attributed to continuous updates and its interactive nature.
The platform received commendation at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week in Geneva, where UN officials, NGOs, and academics highlighted its role as a hub for early warning, training, and public awareness.
Lieutenant General Al Hassan invited the public to access the platform via its website: www.ncpp.gov.bh, emphasizing that readiness is now a global necessity.
