Bahrain chairs 23rd GCC e-Government Executive Committee meeting

Chief Executive Officer of the e-Government and Information Authority (iGA), Mohammed Ali Al-Qaed, today chaired the 23rd meeting of the GCC e-Government’s Executive Committee, held virtually.

CEOs and directors-general of e-government authorities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries participated in the remote meeting, chaired by Bahrain, the chair of the current GCC session.

Al-Qaed conveyed greetings from the Interior Minister to the committee members, as well as his wishes of success to their meeting.

He also congratulated the Governor of the Saudi Digital Government Authority, Eng. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ali Al-Soyyan, and the Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Ali bin Amer Al-Shidhani, on their appointment to their posts, paying tribute to the outgoing members for their valuable contributions to achieving the Committee’s goals.

Al-Qaed highlighted the major role played by modern technology in supporting the efforts of GCC government to confront the challenges created by the novel Coronavirus, noting that GCC countries’ adoption of modern technology has contributed to ensuring the continuity of normal life during the pandemic.

He added that the acceleration of the pace of digital transformation in all sectors has led to the delivery of high-quality e-services, stressing the importance of enhance cooperation and exchange of expertise among member states in this field.

During the meeting, the kingdom reviewed its successful experiences in confronting the pandemic and cloud computing.

In this regard, iGA’s Deputy CEO for Electronic Transformation, Dr. Zakariya Ahmed Al-Khaja, highlighted iGA’s role in supporting the national efforts to combat the pandemic through supporting social distancing, speeding up the digital transformation of government services and developing the BeAware system.

Director of iGA’s Governance and Enterprise Architecture, Dr. Khalid Almutawah, cast light on Bahrain’s cloud computing experience, as well as iGA’s future projects.

The meeting discussed topics on its agenda.
