Bahrain Chairs 20th Meeting of GCC Human Rights Agencies

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Bahrain chaired the 20th meeting of the heads of government human rights agencies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, held at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Dr. Yousif Abdulkareem Bucheeri, Director-General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Dr. Bucheeri, in his opening remarks, highlighted the progress achieved by GCC member states in promoting and protecting human rights. He noted that these achievements are rooted in development strategies that place people at the center of national priorities. Dr. Bucheeri added that this approach has contributed to the GCC countries' advancement in regional and international development and competitiveness indicators.

The meeting reviewed agenda items, including ways to strengthen Gulf cooperation in human rights, exchange views on joint initiatives and programs, and follow up on decisions and recommendations issued by the GCC Supreme Council and Ministerial Council. The heads of the government human rights agencies reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination among GCC member states and of strengthening institutional cooperation to support sustainable development, the promotion and protection of human rights, and the aspirations of the people of the GCC for greater security, stability, and prosperity.
