Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa departed the Kingdom of Bahrain for a state visit to the Sultanate of Oman, at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. During the visit, Their Majesties will engage in discussions aimed at strengthening historical ties between Bahrain and Oman, while also addressing regional and international matters of mutual interest.
According to Bahrain News Agency, this visit underscores the commitment to advancing bilateral relations and follows HM Sultan Haitham's visit to Bahrain in October 2022, which marked an important moment in the partnership between the two countries. The historic occasion resulted in the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at fostering sustainable and long-term collaboration across various sectors.
In recent years, Bahrain and Oman have made significant progress in their relations, with shared views on key issues and strong cooperation in important areas such as economic development, investment, trade, and social progress, under the leadership of HM King Hamad and HM Sultan Haitham.
The Bahrain-Oman Joint Ministerial Committee, established in 1992, has been instrumental in driving these efforts. Over the course of its eight sessions, the committee has transformed joint initiatives into formal agreements, MoUs, and action plans, contributing significantly to strengthening the political and diplomatic ties between the two countries. These initiatives also align with the broader objectives of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and reinforce the principles of Arab unity.
Additionally, the Bahrain-Oman Joint Business Council and the Bahrain-Oman Friendship Society have played important roles in fostering economic and cultural cooperation. These entities actively support the shared visions of Bahrain and Oman, promoting sustainable development and enhancing the prosperity and well-being of their peoples.
The profound historical connection between Bahrain and Oman is rooted in their shared civilisational heritage. Bahrain, as the cradle of the Dilmun civilisation, and Oman, home to the Magan civilisation, have made significant contributions to the history of the Arabian Peninsula. Their shared maritime heritage and longstanding trade relations have further strengthened this bond, forming the foundation of a flourishing partnership that continues to thrive today.
