Bahrain and Kuwait Sign MoU to Boost Health Cooperation

Manama: Bahrain and Kuwait have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance health cooperation. This development occurred during the 11th meeting of the Health Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the 88th meeting of the GCC Health Ministers' Council, where Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Bahrain's Minister of Health, met with Dr. Ahmad Al Awadhi, Kuwait's Minister of Health.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting highlighted the strong relations between Bahrain and Kuwait, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in the health sector. Discussions took place on further developing bilateral health cooperation by exchanging expertise and best practices in primary healthcare, disease prevention, and strengthening public health systems. Opportunities for cooperation in health training, capacity development, and partnerships in pharmaceuticals and medical technologies were also explored.

The MoU signed by the two ministers aims to strengthen collaboration in preventive and curative health services, twin healthcare institutions, and unify stances on regional and international health issues. It includes cooperation in public health programmes, combating communicable and non-communicable diseases, and sharing expertise in environmental health, climate change, and the One Health approach.

Further areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include training, capacity building, and professional development of health workers, as well as the use of digital health and modern technologies. Collaboration with the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialisations will expand training opportunities for Bahraini health professionals, and there will be cooperation in telemedicine, health insurance systems, and comprehensive healthcare. The agreement also supports school health development and pharmaceutical cooperation to ensure drug security.

The signing of the MoU demonstrates the commitment of both nations to strengthen their strategic partnership in the health field, contribute to sustainable health development, and enhance Gulf cooperation in addressing current and future health challenges.
