Brussels: Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Bahrain's Mission to the European Union, led the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) delegation at a working breakfast meeting with the European Union's Political and Security Committee (PSC). The meeting was hosted by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Cyprus as part of its Presidency of the European Union. The primary focus was to enhance consultation and coordination between the GCC and the EU on regional developments, especially concerning the Iranian attacks on Bahrain and other GCC nations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the participants engaged in discussions about the impact of Iranian attacks on GCC countries and the broader implications for regional security and stability. They stressed the significance of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemning the targeting of civilian infrastructure and essential corridors. The discussions also highlighted the necessity to de-escalate tensions and boost international efforts to protect regional security.
The meeting also focused on the critical importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Participants agreed on the need to collaborate with international partners to maintain the smooth flow of global shipping and trade in line with international law, considering its effects on energy security, global economic stability, and supply chains.
Furthermore, the meeting underscored the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between the GCC and the European Union. The continuation of cooperation in shared priority areas, particularly maritime security, energy, and economic cooperation, was emphasized to support mutual interests and foster regional and international stability.
