At FANA meeting, BNA calls for greater use of modern communication technologies, applications and platforms

Bahrain News Agency (BNA) Director-General Abdullah Khalil Buhejji participated in the 49th conference of the General Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), coinciding with the Global Media Congress (GMC) launch edition.

The conference was attended by FANA Secretary-General Farid Ayyar, representatives of 14 news agencies, and observers and guests to discuss relevant topics and issues in the media sector.

The conference featured two parts –a seminar with representatives of European news agencies and intra-FANA discussions on 23 topics on the agenda of the FANA General Assembly, including approving a training plan until 2025, approving the recommendations of the Committee for Securing Financial Resources to develop the federation work, cooperation with European news agencies, and with the Arab League.

Buhejji stressed the importance of communication between news agencies in a way that enables them to achieve more exchange of news, reports and images that are produced professionally in accordance with the latest technological developments.

He also noted the significance of exerting greater efforts in all media areas, especially news, to be able to face challenges through joint action and coordination to convey the right messages to media institutions using modern communication technologies, applications and platforms.

They help enhance the Arab media and enable it to cover events with high levels of professionalism and credibility, he said.

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, WAM Director-General and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the Global Media Congress said that the rapid developments across the world in general, and the media industry sector in particular, require Arab media to continue thinking, planning, and working together in facing the challenges and exploring the significant issues in making the news story, the credibility of the message and the ethics of the profession.

“I express my deep thanks and appreciation for your valuable participation with us in this unique media event, looking forward, as Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for this global gathering, that every Arab agency will have a distinguished participation and multiple contributions in the upcoming editions, and invest opportunities to strengthen partnerships and conclude agreements with regional and international entities operating in the media industry.”

The seminar brought together the FANA participants and representatives of European news agencies – Russia’s TASS, Germany’s dpa, Bulgaria’s BTA, British Press Association PA, and the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) to review ways to boost relations.

The discussion reviewed initiatives and plans and explored the possibility of developing a framework for the two sides to have annual or biennial meetings to develop relations.
