Amman: The Amman-based Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) has officially declared September 21 as the annual "Arab Renewable Energy Day." This announcement aims to launch initiatives and showcase achievements, innovations, and both completed and planned projects for the coming years.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the decision was made during the preparatory meeting of the 10th Arab Renewable Energy Forum. This forum is scheduled to take place in Manama, Bahrain, from November 3-5. The recent meeting was held at the AREC's headquarters in Amman, as reported by the Jordanian News Agency, Petra.
In a press release, the AREC emphasized that the establishment of this annual event is intended to highlight the interest in renewable energy at both public and private levels, as well as within civil society institutions across Arab countries. The commission also announced that "comprehensive" guidelines on renewable energy in the Arab world will be released during this year's celebration of Arab Renewable Energy Day.
Mohammed Taani, the AREC Secretary-General, stated that the commission plays a vital role in achieving sustainable development and contributes to increasing reliance on renewable energy to attain self-sufficiency and global connectivity.
Locally, Taani highlighted Jordan's progress in renewable energy and energy storage, emphasizing the nation's self-generation and security advancements at both individual and institutional levels. This progress is supported by new energy laws designed to encourage investment by reducing electricity bills through increased reliance on self-generation and energy storage, especially under independent power systems of less than a megawatt.
Taani also mentioned that the AREC will host the 5th Arab Renewable Energy Dialogue Workshop in Amman from June 23-25. The workshop will focus on themes such as energy storage, electric vehicles, infrastructure, and smart grids among Arab countries.
