Arab Parliament Speaker congratulates Bahrain on Montreal Protocol Executive Committee presidency

Arab Parliament (AP) Speaker, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoomi, has congratulated the kingdom’s leadership and people on Bahrain’s winning the presidency of the Executive Committee of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol) for the year 2022, noting that it is the first-of-its-kind GCC achievement since the ratification of the Montreal Protocol in 1987.

Al-Asoomi asserted that the exploit adds to Bahrain’s rich record of achievements in all fields, and crowns its pioneering efforts to combat climate change and the challenges resulting from it for the sake of protecting the future of humanity from the most serious danger facing the world.

It also reflects the effective role played by the kingdom at international organisations and agencies, which enhances its active contributions to strengthening international cooperation in various files, especially the environment, as well as in addressing climate change and its repercussions.

The AP speaker lauded the sound directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and those of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in this regard, noting that the international accomplishment was the fruitful outcome of their forward-looking wise vision and keenness to adopt environment-related initiatives aimed at consolidating the sustainability of the environment, in addition to their launch of programmes and projects that would contribute to achieving such goals, in accordance with the highest international standards.

Al-Asoomi commended the efforts exerted by HM the King’s Personal Representative and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to achieve the goals of environmental development through the SCE, praising the SCE’s effective role, varied programmes and adoption of the principles of global sustainable development in everything aimed at achieving development while protecting the environment and preserving natural resources, in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
