Applications for Prime Minister’s Journalism Award open on May 7

Applications for the “Prime Minister’s Journalism Award” in its sixth edition will open on May 7, the Minister of Information has said.

This award, held under the auspices of the Prime Minister, is a reflection of the support accorded to the press by the wise leadership and this honor for creative journalists, columnists and photographers is an expression of the appreciation of their dedication in serving the nation and their excellence and commitment to journalism’s noble values and role in enlightenment, Ali Al Romaihi said.

The award also stimulates creativity and encourages new generations of journalists to exert more efforts to develop and promote journalism in Bahrain, he added.

The names of the winners will be announced at the end of June at a ceremony to be held under the auspices of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Al Romaihi said.

The awards will be in four categories – the best opinion column, the best investigative report, the best interview and the best photo.

According to the award criteria, every press organization, including Bahrain News Agency, or journalist who works in one of the daily, weekly or periodical local newspapers or magazines published in Bahrain in Arabic or English has the right to submit his work for one of the awards presented.

The conditions of the award include that it is limited to materials published in the local press in 2020 and that every journalist or press institution is entitled to five entries per category.

Works that have been previously rejected in local competitions or that have previously won a Gulf or Arab press award are ruled out.

The applicant bears full responsibility for his submitted work and the award organizers do not bear any professional or legal liability in the event a violation of professional norms is proven or if he quotes, copies or distorts the press material published in his name.

In the event that the violation is proven, the award, if it is granted to him, will be withdrawn.

The original copy or the electronic link must be submitted along the application with the name of the publication, the date of publication, and the publication page.

The sub-screening committees have the right to exclude any works submitted for the award without giving reasons.

The jury’s decision is final and abiding, and no contestant has the right to challenge its results anywhere.
