Doha: His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, received a phone call from His Excellency Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss recent developments in the region.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during the call, HH the Amir reaffirmed Qatar's strong condemnation of the attack on Al Udeid Air Base, stressing that it constitutes a violation of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, and contradicts international law and the principles of good neighborliness.
HH the Amir noted that this escalation contradicts the close ties between the two countries, particularly given Qatar's ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue. He called for an immediate cessation of military operations and a serious return to dialogue to overcome the crisis, aiming to preserve the security and stability of the region.
On his part, the Iranian President expressed regret over the damages caused by the attack, affirming that Qatar was not the intended target. He described Qatar as a neighbouring Muslim and brotherly country, expressing hope to strengthen bilateral relations based on mutual respect.
