Alternative Sentencing Directorate and Arab Open University Sign MoU to Enhance Educational Opportunities

Manama: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing and the Arab Open University (AOU) to provide specialised educational programmes to beneficiaries of the alternative sentencing project.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed by Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, and Dr. Najma Taqi, President of the AOU. The agreement aims to implement the directives of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, to improve education and training mechanisms for alternative sentencing beneficiaries, aiding their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Under the agreement, the AOU will deliver academic and vocational training programmes designed to improve the skills and competencies of the beneficiaries. This initiative is expected to enhance their future employment prospects and contribute to effective rehabilitation.

Both parties stressed the importance of the MoU in fostering cooperation between educational and correctional institutions to advance the goals of restorative justice and sustainable community development in Bahrain.
