Jeddah: The second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, under the theme "And All that Is in Between," is captivating art and culture enthusiasts at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport. Al Midhallah (the Canopy) section provides a unique perspective on the concept of gardens in Islamic civilization.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the outdoor setting features shaded, pointed canopies inspired by Arab tents, where contemporary art seamlessly integrates with the legacy of Islamic architecture. The Al Midhallah section showcases approximately 20 modern artworks commissioned by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation.
These artworks, inspired by the charbagh-a traditional Islamic garden layout with four sections divided by water channels-are organized into four thematic quadrants. This arrangement takes visitors on a journey from individual introspection to collective experience, encouraging reflection, learning, contemplation, and social encounters.
Al Midhallah's experience extends beyond a typical art exhibition, emphasizing the intersection between art and nature. It provokes thought on contemporary environmental and social issues, using an artistic approach to explore the relationship between humans and their environment.
