The member of the House of Representatives from Kirkuk Governorate, MP Sheikh Wasfi Al-Asi, explained the reason for stopping the second paragraph of the agenda of today’s parliamentary session.
Al-Asi said in a statement: ‘Today in Parliament, we were able to stop voting on the second paragraph of the council’s agenda, which includes returning real estate to its original owners by canceling many of the decisions of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council.’
He added, “The proposal for this law is very unfair to the Arabs in Kirkuk, as they are the only ones affected by it, under the pretext that the lands belong to Kurdish farmers and were unjustly seized during the time of the previous regime.”
He explained, “The matter is contrary to the facts, as the owners of these properties and lands are not covered by Article 140, and they are original residents of the city of Kirkuk, according to 57 census, and they also have hundreds of judicial decisions that have become definitive regarding their right to th
ese properties.”
In its session held today, Wednesday, the House of Representatives postponed voting on the draft law to return real estate to its owners, which is covered by some decisions of the (dissolved) Revolutionary Command Council.
