Manama: The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) honoured 150 participants in its peer education programme for medicine and nursing students at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the participants were honoured by Dr. Ghazi bin Abdulrahman Al Otaibi, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Saleh Madadin, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, during a ceremony organised by the Peer Education Programme Committee, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Al Iraqi, Head of the Department of Medical Education.
The programme was delivered under the supervision of the committee, which includes Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Al Iraqi, Dr. Yahya Mohamed Najeeb, Head of the Department of Physiology, Dr. Hawazin Omar Al Rawas, Head of the Nursing Programme, Dr. Aseel Fouad Al Saleh, Dean of Student Affairs, and Dr. Alaa Nabil Al Mazni, Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.
During the ceremony, Dr. Al Iraqi provided an overview of the programme and its implementation stages. Thirty-five student instructors were chosen from 57 applicants representing various academic years based on academic performance and professional conduct. They were trained in lecture planning and teaching skills, supplemented by individual feedback.
The lectures, delivered both in person and online, benefited approximately 150 students enrolled in the medicine and nursing programmes over recent months.
The ceremony also acknowledged student instructors who received the highest evaluations from their peers, including Ali Ibrahim Abbas, a second-year Bachelor of Nursing student, and Maha Khalid Al Binali, a fourth-year medical student. Certificates were awarded to all students who completed the programme.
Dr. Al Otaibi and Professor Dr. Madadin reviewed the programme's future plans, including the creation of a digital platform to enhance communication between student instructors and learners, manage lecture schedules, collect feedback, and provide a dashboard for sharing educational resources.
They praised the committee's efforts in implementing the programme and commended the participating students for their dedication to supporting their peers through both in-person and online learning.
The participating students emphasized the programme's role in enhancing knowledge exchange, developing critical thinking skills, and supporting academic achievement through collaborative learning.
