A six-party Arab meeting in Riyadh last night called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that in light of Arab attempts for a truce in the Gaza Strip that has been suffering from an Israeli war since last October 7, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, chaired, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Riyadh, the ministerial meeting of the Arab Six-Party Ministerial Consultative Group to discuss developments in the Israel war on the Gaza Strip.
The meeting was attended by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shukri, his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Al-Safadi, the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the Minister of Civil Affairs, Hussein Al-Sheikh, the diplomatic advisor to the President of the Emirates, Anwar Gargash, and the Minister of State in the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Al-Khulaifi, according to the same statement.
The attendees stressed “the n
ecessity of ending the war on the Gaza Strip, reaching an immediate and complete ceasefire, and ensuring the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.”
They also stressed “the necessity of lifting all restrictions that hinder the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.”
They expressed their support for all efforts aimed at international recognition of the independent Palestinian state, in a way that achieves the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
They also stressed “the importance of taking irreversible steps to implement the two-state solution, and to recognize the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Quds as its capital.”
They stressed that “the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory,” expressing their “categorical rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, and any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah.”
They warned of “the continuation of illegal Israeli
measures in the West Bank and occupied East Quds, which undermine the two-state solution.”
This group is also expected to meet US Secretary of State Blinken in Saudi Arabia, according to two statements by the Egyptian and Jordanian Foreign Ministry, issued earlier yesterday, Saturday.
The Arab Group meeting comes on the eve of the launch of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh today, Sunday, under the slogan ‘International Cooperation, Growth, and Energy for Development,’ in the presence of a number of heads of state, and more than 1,000 senior officials, international experts, opinion leaders, and thinkers, from 92 countries, according to what was reported by the Saudi News Agency.
