9th UN Gastronomy Tourism Forum 2024 Concludes in Bahrain.

Manama: The 9th UN World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism 2024 concluded in Bahrain, held under the theme "Gastronomy Tourism: a driver of economic diversification and inclusion". The event, attended by Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, brought together experts and specialists from around the world. According to Bahrain News Agency, Dana Osama Al Saad, Deputy CEO of Resources and Projects at Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), expressed pride in hosting this significant global event for the first time in the Middle East. She highlighted the forum's role in showcasing Bahrain's rich culinary heritage and tourism potential, thanking all contributors for their support in making the event a success. Basma Al Mayman, Regional Director of the Middle East at UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), commended Bahrain's efforts in organising the forum and its hospitality. She emphasised the forum's success in shedding light on gastronomy tourism as a key tool for sustainable economic growth and social inclusion while addressing issues such as sustainability and cultural heritage preservation. Joxe Mari Aizega, Director General of the Basque Culinary Centre, thanked the organisers and participants, announcing that the 10th edition of the forum will take place in San Sebastián, Spain, marking its 10th anniversary with events celebrating gastronomy tourism globally. The final day included a discussion on cost-effective and responsible strategies among tourism stakeholders, focusing on reducing food waste, enhancing sustainability, and turning waste into valuable resources with input from industry experts. Closing the forum, David Mora, Coordinator of the Master's in Gastronomy Tourism at the Basque Culinary Centre, and Sandra Carvão, Director of Market Intelligence at UNWTO, presented the outcomes. They emphasised the importance of fostering sustainable collaboration among nations and communities to advance this vital sector.
