Kamchatka: A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka region at a depth of 10 kilometres.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences reported the earthquake on Saturday. In contrast, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the quake at a magnitude of 7.4 and at a depth of 39.5 kilometres.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center indicated the possibility of tsunami waves following the earthquake. However, Japan's public broadcaster NHK, referencing the Meteorological Agency, reported that no tsunami warning had been issued for Japan, which is situated southwest of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
