Manila: A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of the Philippines on Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey. According to Bahrain News Agency, the quake occurred at a depth of 101 kilometres, approximately 70 kilometres from the nearest areas in Davao Occidental province. A local medic on Sarangani Island reported the tremor lasted about five seconds, causing tables and computers in offices to shake. No injuries or material damage were reported. Authorities confirmed there was no tsunami warning issued following the quake. The Philippines lies within the Pacific 'Ring of Fire,' an area known for frequent seismic and volcanic activity. While minor earthquakes occur daily in the country, strong quakes remain unpredictable, posing ongoing challenges for residents.
