Manama: The 2025 Paralympic Badminton tournament has commenced in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is scheduled to run from May 13-18. The event showcases the participation of 90 athletes representing 16 countries, underscoring international trust in Bahrain's capabilities to host significant sporting events.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the opening ceremony was marked by a flag parade, creating a celebratory atmosphere that honored the determination of the participating athletes. The organising committee extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegations, expressing hopes for their comfortable stay and an enriching sporting and cultural experience.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, highlighted the importance of hosting such a major sporting event. He stated that the tournament demonstrates Bahrain's dedication to supporting determined athletes and fostering an inclusive sporting environment.
Shaikh Mohammed further elaborated that the championship plays a crucial role in raising awareness about Paralympic sports and their contribution to inclusion and empowerment, while also promoting sportsmanship and social cohesion. Additionally, he mentioned that the tournament serves as motivation for athletes to achieve greater success for their countries, enhancing Bahrain's standing on the global sports map. He also pointed out the economic advantages, particularly in the sectors of tourism, hospitality, and transport.
