2025 Diplomatic Forum Highlights Bahrain’s Commitment to Human Rights

Manama: The 2025 Diplomatic Forum commenced with discussions on Bahrain's efforts in human rights protection and its National Human Rights Plan. The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coincided with Bahrain's Diplomatic Day, underscoring the Kingdom's dedication to regional and international roles.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Dr. Youssef Bucheeri, Director General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, opened the session, expressing pride in the forum's alignment with Bahrain's Diplomatic Day. He emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to human rights as a core element of its foreign policy. Dr. Bucheeri highlighted Bahrain's 2024 achievements, including royal pardons for 3,694 convicts and the implementation of 64 out of 102 projects in the national human rights plan, alongside expanded alternative punishment programs benefiting over 7,700 convicts.

Ambassador Dr. Bucheeri also discussed Bahrain's adherence to international conventions and its transparency through periodic human rights reports. He praised bilateral dialogues with international partners and the introduction of the Higher Diploma on Peaceful Coexistence and Human Rights, a regional first.

The session included insights from Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al Sayed, Chief of the Human Rights Affairs Sector, who addressed common inquiries about Bahrain's human rights practices. She highlighted the Kingdom's commitment to transparency and openness.

Human Rights Advisor Nawar Al Mutawa provided an overview of the National Framework and National Human Rights Plan, noting its alignment with Bahrain's constitution, national charter, legislation, and international obligations. He reviewed achievements from the plan's implementation and outlined future objectives in the context of Bahrain's ongoing development and international cooperation.

The session concluded with a brainstorming session involving panelists and Bahrain's diplomatic missions abroad. Ambassadors shared proposals and ideas to shape the next national human rights plan for 2027-2031, aiming to enhance Bahrain's regional and international standing while considering national priorities and sustainable development goals.
