Manama: The Ministry of Works has opened Boulevard Street in Rafa to traffic as part of its ongoing efforts to develop the road network and improve traffic flow in the area. The project is a new addition to the road network. Boulevard Street has two lanes in each direction and extends for about 2.5 kilometres, connecting Zallaq Highway and Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway.
According to Bahrain News Agency, as part of the development works, a U-turn was previously constructed on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway at its junction with Zallaq Highway, extending for about 1.3 kilometres, to improve traffic flow and provide easier access to nearby areas and services. The road reduces detour distances, eases pressure on the junctions along Zallaq Highway and improves traffic flow in the area.
The works also included widening the right-turn lane from Zallaq Highway to Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway to two lanes, increasing capacity and improving traffic flow at the site.
These projects improve traffic flow in Rafa as the area continues to undergo urban development and expansion of various projects and facilities, including educational and service facilities. This requires the road network to be developed and made more efficient to meet the growing number of road users, provide easier access to these facilities and surrounding areas, and support current and future traffic.
The opening of Boulevard Street is part of the Ministry of Works' ongoing efforts to develop road infrastructure and improve the efficiency of the transport network, keeping pace with urban and development growth in the area, meeting current and future needs, and providing more efficient road services for users.
