Manama: A large wildfire has swept across southern France, with more than 1,000 firefighters battling the flames near the coastal city of Martigues, close to Marseille, according to the local fire department. The fire, which broke out on Thursday evening, has scorched around 240 hectares and spread rapidly due to strong winds, French authorities said on Friday.
According to Bahrain News Agency, at least 150 people were evacuated to safety, while others were advised to remain indoors as a precaution. Several roads were temporarily closed, and one firefighter sustained minor injuries during containment efforts.
The blaze is the latest in a series of wildfires affecting southern France amid extreme weather conditions. Firefighting teams continue efforts to bring the fire under control as the region remains on high alert.
