Vehicle clearance up 32% in H1 of 2023

The number of vehicles that were cleared at the Zarqa Free Zone during the first half of 2023 jumped 32 percent, as some 31,500 new vehicles hit the kingdom’s roads, compared to the same period of 2022, according to latest figures.

Jordan Free Zone Investor Commission (JFZIC) President Mohammad Bustanji said Tuesday that 6,310 petrol-powered vehicles, 3,255 diesel vehicles, 8,039 hybrid vehicles, and 13,861 electric vehicles were cleared in the January-June period, while 20,238 vehicles were re-exported.

Compared with figures in the corresponding period of 2022, the free zone saw a 96-percent rise in electric vehicle clearances from 7,054 to 13,861 vehicles in H1 of this year, he said. However, diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicle clearances decreased by 17 percent and 32 percent, respectively.

Moreover, an 80 percent increase in hybrid vehicle clearance was witnessed during the same time frame, the figures revealed.

Bustanji noted that the data suggests that people are becoming increasingly aware of environmental matters, and are looking for more energy-efficient alternatives.
