Ankara: Using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the engineering and health sectors were widely discussed at a fair in the Turkish capital on Friday. The two-day event, organised by Ankara University, aims to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and public institutions in the field of AI.
According to Bahrain News Agency, on the second day of the interdisciplinary artificial intelligence project fair, academics, engineers, health professionals, and experts discussed the impact of AI in the engineering and health sectors. Tanyel Cakmak, an expert in technology development at the Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI), explained that transformation in the defense industry began in 2004. She emphasized the limitations in technology transfer between countries due to security concerns, highlighting the importance of developing and using indigenous technology instead of depending on external supplies.
Cakmak pointed out that the ATAK helicopter and the Altay battle tank were results of innovative ideas produced by Turkish engineers. She added that Trkiye has started working on a sixth-generation fighter jet that will be integrated with AI. Kaan Atalay, another expert in technology development at TAI, mentioned that AI is a top agenda item in Trkiye's largest aerospace manufacturer.
Atalay elaborated on their aim to reduce manned-dependent flights, using AI to detect threats in enemy airspace and decide the amount of ammunition to use. He also mentioned that AI-focused maintenance and simulation using digital twins have helped increase profit and sustainability in the after-sales process.
