US State Department: Jordan’s contribution to regional stability demonstrated by establishment of NATO office in Amman

Washington: The US State Department’s regional spokesperson, Sam Warburg, stated that Jordan’s crucial role in maintaining regional stability is demonstrated by the inauguration of a NATO office in Amman.

During the NATO summit held in Washington, D.C., he made it clear in an interview with the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that his nation recognizes the critical role the Kingdom plays in maintaining regional stability.

The fact that the American official said that his nation views Jordan as a location that symbolizes stability in the area suggests that the US and the other NATO members share a similar perspective.

He emphasized that the goal of larger and closer ties between the NATO members and Jordan is “an important symbol and message from the international community and not just from the United States.”

Warburg praised “the role that the Kingdom has played for years in maintaining security, peace, and stability in the region through… “All attempts to combat terrorism,” clarifying that the office’s
opening “does not come within the framework of NATO offering something to Jordan only, but rather NATO countries have the opportunity to learn from Jordan’s experience in combating terrorism.”

“Jordan will also have the opportunity to learn from NATO’s experience” in the same area, he continued, pointing out that cyberattacks are currently the main threat and that coordination and cooperation are needed not just at the level of conventional counter-terrorism activities but also in the form of innovative strategies and tactics targeted at combating terrorism through the Internet.

In addition to stating that his nation “considers the Kingdom one of the most important partners of the United States in terms of stability and security in the region,” the American official emphasized that “the relationship with Jordan is considered one of the oldest American relations in the region.”

Indicating that “this is not something that comes easily for any leader in the world to have a relationship with” and acquaintance
with “all the authorities in America,” he pointed out that His Majesty King Abdullah II is not only good friends with US President Joe Biden but also has friends in all US authorities, whether at the level of the federal government or the Congress.

The American official went on to say that His Majesty was determined to make sure that he, the government, and the Jordanian people had a very broad relationship with America, for the benefit of the two friendly countries, even if he was conscious that the relationship would not be between two individuals.
