US and Turkey impose sanctions on human trafficking network linked to ISIS

Washington, The US Treasury Department announced today that the United States and Turkey are collaborating to dismantle a human trafficking network linked to the terrorist organisation ISIS.

In a statement, the department said that following an investigation conducted in close coordination with Ankara, sanctions have been imposed on four individuals, three of whom are involved in the network.

“Thanks to this close cooperation, Turkey is simultaneously taking its own internal actions against this network,” the statement added. It did not specify the duration of the network’s activities or the number of individuals trafficked through it.

In May, Turkish authorities reported the arrest of 41 people suspected of being connected to ISIS during operations across 12 provinces.

ISIS controlled one-third of Iraq and Syria at its peak in 2014. Although its presence has significantly diminished, the group still carries out sporadic attacks.
