Baku: Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Khayat, Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), participated in a panel discussion on coastal adaptation and housing resilience during the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the session was organised jointly with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and focused on protecting coastal communities from the impact of rising sea levels and strengthening climate resilience.
Al Khayat highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain's efforts to advance sustainable urban development through integrated planning policies aligned with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasized Bahrain's focus on climate adaptation, urban resilience, and the protection of infrastructure and coastal communities through sustainable planning approaches.
The session reviewed international experiences and best practices in addressing climate-related challenges affecting coastal cities and communities. On the sidelines of the forum, Al Khayat met Dmitry Ontoev, Adviser to the Head of the Moscow Department of Information Technologies (DIT) of Moscow City, to discuss digital transformation in urban planning and smart city solutions, including the use of digital twin technologies in infrastructure management, transport systems, and urban governance.
