Manama:University of Bahrain: The University of Bahrain (UOB) has been accredited as a Health-Promoting University, meeting the standards recognized and approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) after a comprehensive assessment process.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, President of UOB, stated that this achievement demonstrates the university's dedication to maintaining a healthy, safe, and supportive campus environment that enhances the quality of life for both students and staff. He highlighted that this accreditation strengthens the educational institutions' role as partners in community health promotion.
Dr. Samar Al Feky, Eastern Mediterranean Regional Advisor at WHO, acknowledged the university's efforts in integrating health and well-being into the campus environment. She praised its collaboration with national entities and stressed the importance of continuing to build on these achievements to support the health of the university community.
Dr. Wafa Ebrahim Al Sharbati, Director of Health Promotion at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the significant role universities play in promoting healthy behaviors and increasing health awareness. She noted the Ministry's ongoing support for partnerships with educational institutions to create sustainable healthy environments and integrate health into institutional policies and practices.
A WHO delegation, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Higher Education Council, visited the university in November 2025 to evaluate its adherence to the standards of the Healthy University Programme. The evaluation committee commended the university for its performance and the quality of its health-related initiatives and policies.
