New york: Members of the United Nations Security Council have strongly condemned ongoing attacks launched by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks that have caused damage to civilians and energy infrastructure.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the members expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia in confronting attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects on its territory, affirming its inherent right to self-defence in accordance with international law.
Council members reiterated their condemnation of missile attacks against the Kingdom, as well as attacks and threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab al Mandab Strait. They stressed the importance of protecting commercial vessels and their crews and respecting navigational rights and freedoms in accordance with international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
They also reiterated their support for the Yemeni government and their commitment to Yemen's unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. They reaffirmed their support for Hans Grundberg, UN Special Envoy for Yemen, in his efforts to reach a comprehensive negotiated political settlement based on agreed references and consistent with Security Council resolutions.
