Manama: United Nations Secretary General Ant³nio Guterres said during the annual Peace Bell Ceremony marking the International Day of Peace, observed on September 21, that peace is the strongest force for a better future and is within reach if chosen.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Guterres stated that the Peace Bell serves as a reminder to the world that even small contributions can have a lasting impact, and that unity can allow peace to prevail in a divided world.
He warned that peace is under siege, with conflicts multiplying and civilians suffering. He called for silencing weapons, strengthening diplomacy, protecting civilians, upholding the UN Charter, addressing root causes of conflict, and investing in prevention, dialogue, and trust, while supporting peacebuilders, especially women and youth.
Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, underlined that this year's International Day of Peace may be more important than ever, emphasizing efforts to achieve peace worldwide.
